AP English 2 Thesis

1. Wormholes: How Einstein Unlocked the Doors to Heaven by Nadya Zafira

Thesis: Wormholes are portals to heaven.
Claim/argument: On the Day of Judgement, humans will be transported to heaven using a wormhole.
Evidence/reasoning: A wormhole is able to connect two points that are millions of lightyears apart. A wormhole is described in Mark 1:10, which stated that “And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him.”
Comment: Nadya was able to state her thesis clearly. Her article is very well-structured. This made it easy for readers to see her thesis, claims, and evidence. She was also able to conclude her article by giving readers a new perspective on the advancements of science and how it relates to religion. However, she could have added a counterargument to strengthen her thesis.

2. The Second Coming of Christ: Doomsday Clock Revealed by Xylon Ebraam Newman

Thesis: The Doomsday Clock counts down to the return of Jesus Christ.
Claim/argument: Ancient Mayans predicted the second coming of Christ.
Evidence/reasoning: Ancient Mayans predicted that the world would end on either, December 21st 2012 or December 12th 2021.
Comment: Bonny was able to provide strong evidence for his article by providing credible resources. He was able to explain his argument clearly so that readers can understand. However, he failed to create a conclusion that sums up his thesis. Instead, he ended his article abruptly after stating his evidence and reintroducing his thesis.

3. Budi Budiman, the Indonesian Man that can Communicate with Satan Himself by Derrel Archellian

Thesis: Satan is real.
Claim/argument: Satan can be contacted by humans.
Evidence/reasoning: A man named Budi Budiman has frequent dreams where he interacts with Satan himself.
Comment: Derrel was able to present his thesis clearly. He was able to state his claim and supported it by thoroughly explaining his evidence. Derrel was also able to conclude his article well. He was able to make readers intrigued by the notion of contacting Satan and if it is worth the risk. However, Derrel chose to use incomplete evidence which makes his article less credible.
