Part Two: Understanding the Thesis - Tim (Facilitator), Michiko, Gina, Maudy

1. Thesis Statement
Gina - men are becoming less manly
Maudy - American used to be so masculine yet now has changed.
Tim - how masculinity has dwindled throughout the century. They are just trying to prove that their man by showing their masculinity.
Michiko - Masculinity has been something that changes yet people are making such a big deal out of it.

Gina - B
Maudy - B, because it is more logical
Tim - B, it provides an argument
Michiko - B, it provides an argument

Gina - A, it provides analytical paper
Maudy - B
Tim - B because it can answer a question
Michiko - B because it's more specific and can provide a solution

Gina - A, because it explains something to the audiences
Maudy - B, because it asks something
Tim - B , provides an argument
Michiko - B, it needs something to be proven
8. What is the difference between a thesis and an opinion?
Gina - thesis is specific and it should cover only what will you discuss in your paper and should be supported with specific evidence meanwhile opinion is only our thoughts about something and doesn't need specific evidence
Maudy - Thesis is more like with strong argument and we have to prove the hypothesis if we cannot prove it then is not called as thesis meanwhile opinion is only a point of view of an individual.
Tim - Opinion is a personal belief, a thesis is a formal medium for arguing ideas
Michiko - Opinion can be anything and is without restrictions, yet a thesis needs a “format” in order to be a good one.
9. What is the difference between a thesis, a claim, an argument, and a premise?
Gina - thesis is specific about a discussion in our paper, the claim is something is the case typically without evidence, the argument is an exchange of opposite views typically an angry one, the premise is a previous statement from which another follows as a conclusion
Maudy - A claim is the main argument. A counterclaim is the opposite of the argument or the opposing argument. A reason tells why the claim is made and is supported by the evidence. Evidence is the facts or research to support your claim. while the premise is a proposition antecedently supposed or proved or something previously stated or assumed as the basis of further argument a condition, a supposition.
Tim - A premise is an idea, an argument is a tool used to support a claim, a claim is a statement that requires support to justify, a thesis contains all of the above.
Michiko - a thesis needs a premise, argument, and claim in order for it to be a good and complete one.
