Line of Reasoning (Alma, Namira, Naufal (Opal), Raul, and Rully) Empty Line of Reasoning (Alma, Namira, Naufal (Opal), Raul, and Rully)

1. Form small groups, ~4.  Choose a facilitator to guide you through discussion and a secretary to take notes. Watch Brian Holdsworth on What's Missing in Modern Art.

a) What is Holdsworth's overarching thesis?
- Old arts are better than modern art because modern arts limit the creativity that old art produces.
- (Why modern art is less impactful than older arts.)
b) Reflect: Is Holdsworth's thesis stated, or implied?  Is it one sentence, or uses multiple?  Where does it occur: at the very beginning, or later after something else?
- his thesis is implied because he did not exactly say in a sentence. rather, he made us conclude his thesis as we finish watching his whole video
c) What is his line of reasoning?  In as few words as possible, what are the main reasons he gives for his claim?
- Modern art is less inspiring because when people see it, they think they can do the same thing or better. while artworks from the older era like the Sistine Chapel make us more amaze and inspired.
- Modern art uses less effort because they can now make it digitally with the use of computers while older arts need to be done manually by hand
- modern art misses the sense of inspiration.
- modern art focuses more on expression instead of trying to inspire people like what post-modernism art does.
d) Do you agree or disagree?  Why?  Upload your notes.
- disagree because there are modern arts that are inspiring. in the end, it all depends on your perspective towards the artwork.

2.  Chose one of the articles from below and look it over.

a) What is the thesis of the article?
- modern art is seen as an embarrassment to the art industry because not everyone can understand it, but just because we can't understand it, doesn't mean it's bad.
b) Is it stated explicitly?  Is it stated in one sentence?  Where in the article did you find the thesis?
- it is rhetorically said at the beginning of the article with a question.
c) What is the author's line of reasoning?  The state as succinctly as you can the main arguments supporting the thesis.
- using raw ingredients, appropriating junk, and scavenging makes people think it's trash
-many people thought some modern arts were trash
- I agree because in my opinion, art is a form of self-expression and it doesn’t matter if you use junks to create your artwork. because what’s important is the meaning behind it and not all people who can relate to it can appreciate it as much as the people who do.
