Rhetorical situation task

Complete the following in small groups, post your analysis to the phpBB; 100 - 250 words.

1. Define, in your own words, “rhetorical situation”.

2. Explain the difference between Bitzer and Vatz's positions on rhetorical situation.  Who is right and why?

3. Select a short and ordinary news article or opinion piece and use examples and explanation to show how the author is consciously, or unconsciously, constructing the rhetorical situation (à la Vatz).  Include at least one quote from either the Bitzer and/or Vatz original papers.

4. Briefly and informally present your analysis to the class.  Use at least one visual graphic organizer;  PPT etc.
