Elements of fiction

1. Who/what are the characters in the work? What motivates them? Dilla
The main character is a guy working as a technician. What motivates him to get out of the storage is the piece of paper that wrote “think different”

2. What is the setting? How does it contribute to the meaning of the work? Dilla
The setting takes place in a small storage room. The technician thought that the door is locked, making him trapped in a small storage. This makes the character feel trapped and tense.

3. How does conflict manifest in the plot?
The conflict started when the guy put something in the storage and when he wants to get out, he got locked inside the storage

4. Describe the tone, mood, and atmosphere?
The tone, mood and the atmosphere can be said quite desperate, we can see the character is desperate, panic, depress the atmosphere also tense.

5. Who is the narrator? What is the point of view?
In this story, the director is the narrator in this case, and this makes

6. What is the theme, moral, point or life lesson on the work? Dilla
The theme is that we need to think differently. In any type of situation, we need to think outside of the box, to get out of a certain situation.

The director and writer for this short movie is Joe J. Walker

With the person being trapped inside the room, the genre is mostly drama, he made such a hassle for himself, that he overthink and being dramatic over something small.

The artistic movement of this work is more with fear, as the character struggles to get out from the room, raising his fear.

10. How did the time period in which the work was created affect how and why it was designed?
Takes place in the 21st century, these days the edits are more advanced and creates a more accurate depiction of the atmosphere. Takes less effort, less people, and less time to make it.

11. Are you an insider or an outsider to the culture in this work?
It could be said that, an insider has a match to the role that I did in this work. Because, it’s clear that the actor is an outsider, because we live in different countries and continent.

12. How does the work reflect a particular culture or cultural values?
This work reflects very well to the culture of thinking, as the character grabs a paper and sees the quote “Think differently.” And with that, he thinks differently and escapes. Back then, this wasn’t as important to some people as it does now.

Interpretation
13. What did the author want me to get out of this piece?
The author wanted me to tell me that in real life, we need to think differently, so that we won’t get stuck in our path.

14. Do you understand that a work has a symbolic meaning as well as one that is literal? What characters or objects are symbolic (stand for other things)? For example, a rose may stand for love, and a thorn may stand for a painful aspect of love. What content - exact words, phrases, or passages - represents a symbolic expression?
Yes. As a matter of fact, it does have a symbolic meaning, as well as literal. A piece of paper with an important message, is the symbolic object, with its message “Think Differently” as the literal symbol. The storage room itself could also mean “think outside the box” which quite literally he needed to think of a way to escape the room.

Deconstruction
15. What is a possible second meaning of the work? (contra #6, #13, or #14)
A second possible meaning is that under pressure will make us overthink. No matter how simple the problem is, we might get fogged up by our own stress.

Personal response
16.What do you feel about the work? What do you think about it?

I think the movie is giving a very important message, in which most people tend to forget about. The movie had a useful message which is, if we were stress we won’t be able to find anything.
