Literary criticism, the evaluation and interpretation of literature, is closely connected to literary theory: philosophical positions on what the purpose of literature is or should be.  Literary criticism began in ancient times with Aristotle, today a plethora of different schools and approaches have grown up.

Task

0. Form small groups. ~3.  Choose at least three of the schools of literary theory below.  

1. Explain in your own words what that tradition of critique and theory holds.  ~50 words per.

2. Compare and contrast any two theories. ~50 words and/or diagram.

3. Give an example of how one of the traditions you've chosen would interpret or critique a story.  ~200 words.  Upload your work.  Be sure it is proofread and attractively formatted.

4.  Present.  PPT.  Upload.
